The OPP Employment Team collaborates with employers throughout the Greater Hartford area to secure job shadowing, internship, and employment opportunities for the youth we serve. Our focus is to help youth identify their career goals, and attain the employment skills needed to make their goals a reality.
OPP's Youth Employment Services provides several options:
Career Competencies Development Training (CCDT) — OPP provides an interactive classroom and hands-on job readiness training program, with emphasis on the development of career competencies as well as providing: career awareness, job searching methods, interviewing skills good work habits, workplace ethics, and money management techniques.
Internships—Youth engage in a 6-8 week internship where new workplace skills are fostered within a supportive environment. Youth receive stipends based on their attendance and participation.
Job Placement—Youth learn job search techniques, and are given job leads and interview opportunities.
Retention Services — Youth maintain relationship with Youth Employment Specialist (YES) for up to a year to ensure workplace transition and leverage a sense of self sufficiency and independence
Vocational Trainings — Youth earn nationally recognized certifications which make them more marketable to employers.
Office Procedures and Technology — OPP collaborates with Microsoft to provide training and certification in the areas of Word, Excel, and Power Point. Youth graduate from the program with a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification. OPP, as an addendum to the MOS training also provides office procedures training in the areas of: filing skills, business math skills, communications, ethics, safety and ergonomics, keyboarding, and telephone procedures.
Customer & Retail Services helps youth work towards a National Professional Certification in Customer Service & Retail; industry-driven and endorsed credentials that help employers distinguish and recognize qualified customer service professionals, and help define career advancement opportunities for candidates. By earning the professional certification in Customer Service & Retail, candidates can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in work areas that employer's value, and exhibit commitment to professional growth.
OPP is also a partner with Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) Future Workforce summer and year round initiatives.
