Global Youth Service Day 2008

On Friday April 25, 2008, more than 200 Hartford youth participated in 30 community service projects in the Hartford area to celebrate Global Youth Service Day.  It was OPP’s seventh year hosting this worldwide event that mobilizes more than 3-million youth worldwide to take part in service projects in their communities.   Service projects focused on hunger, helping the elderly, literacy, urban blight and AIDS awareness.

Opening ceremonies were held on Thursday, April 24th at the Old State House in Hartford, and featured student performances and addresses by Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez and OPP President/CEO Bob Rath.

The weekend culminated with an Anti-Violence workshop on Saturday, April 26th at the Learning Corridor in Hartford.
