Multi-Media (Music Recording)

Working under the direct supervision of a professional Sound Engineer and his Assistant, each year more than 87 youth learn the fundamentals of the music recording business. Youth develop skills related to music production, sound recording and radio broadcasting, music distribution and royalties, music/sound business structure and marketing as well as teambuilding, interviewing and auditioning. They develop reading and writing skills as they write lyrics and research other production companies. Math skills are developed through the use of the sound editing equipment and activities related to budgeting, pricing and royalties.

Hands-on activities include:

  • Using a 24-track digital sound studio recording equipment, computers and music editing software for basic sound editing.
  • Forming their own record label
  • "Applying" for positions as producers, sound engineers, artists, business managers and artistic designers.
  • Writing, recording and editing original music set to student-produced beats.
  • Creating a CD of their original sound tracks.
